Choosing a wedding venue in Orlando, FL...No idea where to start!?

I am recently engaged and ready to start planning a wedding in Orlando or close by, but don't have a clue where to start looking for a venue. I have lived here for a little less than 2 years and trust me this is a big city to find your way around in. We don't plan on having more than 50 or so guests and not until spring 2013, so something small and booking way in advance isn't much of an issue. Everywhere I see online that I think looks "just perfect" is much less than perfect when I drive by or outrageously expensive. PLEASE any help or suggestions are appreciated!
