I'm watching "Birth of a Nation". Is D.W. Griffith the dumbest person that ever lived?

Honestly all the very very stupid things that appear in this film are so outrageously ridiculous that they remind me of modern day YA Republicans. The film shows Blacks taking over the Congress and the streets. Sitting at their desks in Congress with bare feet up on top. Then they passed a law requiring all whites to salute all blacks on the streets. Outside of Fox News, YA republicans, and the modern Republican leadership, have you ever seen anything so stupid and blatantly racist? Has the modern GOP sunk to Griffith's level?
