Adjusting a guitar action?

Just got a new floyd rose type guitar and notice that the action was too high after the 12 fret and made it impossible to play. i tried to adjust the truss rod, but that only had affect in the first few frets. then i lowered the bridge and still didn't get any results. Can someone please tell me something i can do to fix this because i don't want to take to guitar center.
