I've got straight hair, and want beachy waves!?

Okay, so my hair is outrageously straight. I can't even scrunch my hair. So I was wondering if there was a way that I could get my hair to look like all those celebs with the sexy beachy waves with a curling iron? Also, my hair isn't very thick, but it's not thin either, just in between. It's like a little longer than shoulder length too.
